Abercwmboi V Ferndale
After good pre-season performances against Glyncoch and the Welsh Fijians, Ferndale trotted out onto the sloping pitch in
Abercwmboi to kick off their 07/08 season in Division 4 South East.
From the start, Ferndale looked solid in defence and showed plenty of promise in
attack, but a few mistakes just inside our own half led to Abercwmboi kicking
some fine penalties.
However, it was Ferndale who opened the try scoring, with a fine team move
finished off by Rhys Williams. The try went unconverted, and the half time score
was 9-5.
Both teams started the second half in the same manner. Another penalty put
Abercwmboi further in front, but Brett Williams showed great strength to grab
another try for Ferndale. However, more fine kicking by the Abercwmboi full back
(eventually helping himself to 17 solo points) extended their lead, and a try
near the end wrapped the game up for them, making the final score 22-10 to the
home side.
However, with Ferndale showing lots of promise in defence and going forward, in
addition to the fact that Ferndale won the try count 2-1, there is plenty to
take into the next game.
