On behalf of everyone involved in Ferndale Rugby club I would like to
wish Ashley Coates a speedy return to field after a nasty injury
during the Barry game.
The referee should be commended for his actions during the incident and
special thanks to our physio for containing the injury until
specialist medical help arrived.

I have a photo of my grandfather as part of a rugby team which has won a
cup in the early part of last century. He lived in Baptist Square,
Blaenllechau. He was Robert Jones (Rogin Jones ?). Would the team be
Ferndale? Will send copy of photo . Regards Dave.

Can anyone shed some light on this for Dave Alexander if so let me know
using contact us link and I will pass it on to him, Many thanks.
Alun Arwel Clement Fixture Sec and local historian writes:
Many thanks Dave for your old photo of Ferndale RFC. This was taken
after they won the Glamorgan League cup final at Partridge field
Llwynypia in 1912. Ferndale beat Treorky(old spellig) by 4 points to nil
with a drop goal by captain Willie Davies (his two small sons are in the
photo and the family emigrated to Australia in 1924) No medals were
presented to the Ferndale side as it was claimed they had played with a
RINGER (non registered player). There are many familiar faces known to
local people and one in particular is the gent seated on the front far
left. He is Sir Wyn Williams' grandfather, who was secretary of the
club. Wyn who is originally from Lake Street attended Ferndale Junior
school in the early 1960's (how many other Rhondda born people have been
knighted?). I have a list of all the names in the photo and some other
stories about the characters in the team. Also I have a number of other
Ferndale, Blaenllechau and Maerdy rugby teams, which will be available
after my book "Passages of life in Ferndale & district is published in
the coming months. All the best Alun Arwel Clement (Titch) 26 / 10 /
